Facebook Ad Optimization: You’re doing it wrong!

Successful Facebook Ad Optimization is something totally different than you think.

When asked about the Facebook Ad Optimization, most people first think of analysis and breaking down the data.

But successful (!) Facebook Ad Optimization doesn’t start with analysis. It rather begins waaay earlier, before even launching your first actual Facebook Ad Campaign.

Are you using Lookalike Audiences properly?

If you want to make it work, your Facebook Advertising knowledge needs constant updating.

It’s not like learning how to make damn good coffee. You can learn it once, practice it for a little while, and then stick to that. Maybe you’ll make minimal improvements over the course of several years, but the general principle of making good coffee will never change.

But with Facebook, it’s different.

Let’s get personal …

“So … how long have you been singing for?”

A week or two ago I was a guest on another podcast, and at the end of the podcast the interviewer asked me this question. Definitely not something I expected. He really did his homework!

A few years back I wanted to be a singer. I started singing when I was a kid, and later on even attended singing lessons. I was in a few bands, performing all around town.

Good ol’ times.

This was one of those questions that caught me off guard.

Not like the question I get asked a lot. And the question I want to address today:

“What’s the #1 thing people should be doing on Facebook, but aren’t?”

No, you won’t get better at Facebook Ads in 2017

It’s around 11 AM, my bag is ready, I’ve taken my first few sips of the new pre-workout blend I recently bought (so tasty, yum!), and I’m halfway through the door.

This is how my Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday starts. You’re right; I go to the gym 5x/week for a few years now. And I love every second of it.

I haven’t taken a good photo of my progress for months now, but here’s one from 1.5 years ago:

Goodbye, 2016.

Can you believe it? Can you believe that we’re this close to closing another chapter and kissing 2016 goodbye?

If I had a billion dollars on my account, I swear I would invest it in developing a device that slows down time. Maybe not all of my money though, I would definitely buy at least 50 different onesies first.

Joke aside, 2016 was over quickly. And I cannot help myself with reflecting back on it and already make plans for 2017.

A story about my ripped jeans … and targeting

A few weeks ago I bought myself a nail polish in the color of our car. Yes, I am that crazy, you better believe it.

I wanted to take it a step further as I always do. So I went to the store to buy a Matte Top Coat just to complement the beautiful color of my nails. Found the Top Coat in under 10 minutes (RECORD!) and I was off.

Just as I was leaving the store, there was a man standing in front of it and giving away some pamphlets to everyone. And I mean everyone.

What was going on? And what has this to do with…targeting?

Which Facebook posts to boost?

Let’s play a game.

You have two Facebook posts. One is incredibly popular, and it got you 5x more likes and comments than other posts.

The other one is failing miserably. You’ve put great effort into it. You were sure this is the real deal but for some reason it didn’t bring you any likes or comments.

The first post reached a solid amount of your Facebook fans, you really can’t complain.

The second post … not so much. You barely reached a small fraction of your audience.

In which one of these posts should you invest into? What’s the best step you can take here?

3 must-have social media tools

If I can tell you one characteristic about social media industry is that it’s obsessed with tools. Content scheduling, automating, audience analytics, cross-posting, you name it. You have a general problem? There’s a pretty good chance you’ll find a tool that fixes it.

I’m going to go even deeper and say that social media industry is too obsessed with tools. Instead of focusing on the problem at hand and improving their social media presence, people like to do the exact opposite and heal their souls with fancy social media tools.

I’m not saying tools that make our lives easier shouldn’t have a place in our day-to-day processes. They just shouldn’t be used as a band-aid to put over some wounds we have from dealing with problems that go deeper from ‘when to post on social media’.

So which tools you should really use?
